Fall Fun

Yesterday we went with my brother and his family to a pumpkin patch carnival. The place was a lot of fun for the kids, and pretty expensive for the parents. We went at the perfect time, it wasn't too busy at all! The kids played in the jumpy houses, rode on the jalopy cars, rode a roller coaster, went in a fun house, and went on a small obstacle course that ended in a big slide. They ended their adventures roaming around the hay maze. Here are some pictures of the fun!

5 Things I Have Learned

5. Children know how to manipulate, and can do it well! David knows exactly what to say, and when to say it, to get what he wants. And when he gets into trouble, he knows precisely what to say to make me feel terrible for yelling at him. Spencer is very quick to admit he did something wrong, apologize and start crying so he won't get into trouble. My children know me very well and have learned, way too young, how to push my buttons.

4. Children are excellent listeners...and sometimes not so excellent repeaters. David is listening to EVERY word I say. He will butt in with his opinion to things I am saying on the phone, or correct stories I am telling to someone else. (when I think he is off somewhere playing!) He will come out of nowhere with things that I said months ago. I really have to be careful around him. He has also been known to tell people things that he has heard. (or his version of what he has heard) In preschool, after missing a day of school, I took him to sign in. His teacher asked why he had been absent and he said, "because my mom has crabs". LUCKILY I was standing right there and was able to correct him. I had CRAMPS. (if you know me, you know this is a common occurrence) I shudder to think if he would have waited till I was gone to say something like that. And how many times I haven't been around when he has said something! AAHH! Spencer is getting to that age where he will be doing the same things soon enough.

3. Tough love might just be harder on the parents than the child. We are having a problem with Spencer coming into our bed every night. Honestly, it has to stop! We had the same problem with David when he was younger, and we had to get "tough". We locked our bedroom door so he couldn't get in. Now, I don't know if this is the correct approach to this problem, but it is what we did, and eventually it worked. Anyway, when he came to the door and couldn't get in, he started knocking and asking us to open the door. Knocking turned into banging and eventually crying, and crying hard! He would put his tiny little hands under the door and say, "I am sorry mommy." He thought he was being punished and that is why he couldn't sleep with us. On our side of the door, I honestly was crying harder than he was. Of course we reassured him that he did nothing wrong and that he had to sleep in his own bed, but he was heart broken. And in turn, so was I. Chad thought I was hilarious for crying, but it was so hard to do this to my baby. So I am dreading the "tough love" with Spencer. I don't think I can handle that again!

2. When someone tells you, other than family, how well behaved and wonderful your children are, it is better than chocolate! There has been several times when we have gone out to eat, that a complete stranger has come up to me and complimented me on how well behaved my children are. I am shocked every time!! I am always worried that they are bothering everyone! Apparently not!! I have been told by teachers and people from church how great my kids are. I can't even begin to tell you how good it feels when someone says, "whatever you are doing, you are doing it right."! It also makes me look at my children through someone else's eyes. It makes me a very proud mommy!!

1. Being a mommy is the best job in the whole wide world! I never realized how amazing it would feel to be someones mommy. Let alone two someones mommy! I have two wonderful little guys that look to me for almost everything. They think I know everything and that I have special healing powers. They love my cooking and my singing. (even though I am not a great singer by any means) They love my hugs and kisses and want me to spend all my time with them. They never grow tired of me! In their little eyes, I can do no wrong. I know that it won't always be this way, so I am going to hang on to every moment I have. I am so thankful that I am their mommy and am so thankful for their fabulous daddy. I wouldn't trade the job of David and Spencer's mommy for anything in the world.

Cutest Couple '98 and '08

This weekend was our 10 year reunion. (yes, we are getting old) We had so much fun seeing old friends and making some new ones. Chad and I were really looking forward to this, and the weekend didn't disappoint. Friday was the homecoming assembly, family picnic, and football game. Chad had shirts made for us, reminding everyone of our status as Bonanza high school, class of '98's cutest couple. (we won this title fair and square our senior year) The boys really enjoyed themselves at the picnic, too. There were lots of other kids to play with at the park, and they got their faces painted! David got a football, and Spencer got a bengal tiger. They were very proud of their face tattoos. =) After the picnic, we all got to see Bonanza beat the pants off of Durango, 34-6. GO BENGALS!!

The second night was also a lot of fun!! The reunion was held at the Real World suite at The Palms. There were a lot of people the second night that we didn't see on Friday. We really enjoyed seeing everyone and finding out what they have been up to for the past 10 years. There are some old friends that weren't there, and we really missed seeing them. But there was still a really good turn out. To top it all off, Chad and I won the award of 'Best Bengal Couple' at the end of the night. All in all the reunion was a ton of fun, and we are really glad we went.

Happy Birthday Spencer

Today is Spencer's actual birthday. It was probably a little confusing to him that we were making a big deal about today when we already had a party for him last weekend. But he quickly took to the many happy birthday calls he received today. He would get a great big smile every time someone sang to him and was quick to say thank you. We let him pick a birthday dinner and of course, he chose McDonalds. So we were met at McDonalds by grandma, papa, and grammy. After which, we came back to our house for cake and a couple of gifts. When I tucked him in tonight, he said that he had a great birthday and told me thank you. He is such a sweet little guy! We are so blessed to have him in our family! Happy Birthday, Spencer Roo!! We love you so much!!!

A Smart Kid And Spider-Man

We are so proud of our kindergartner! He learned and tested on all of the sight words that are required for kindergarten, and he did this in the first 3 weeks of school! His teacher rewarded him with a yellow dog tag from the school. He is the first in his class to receive this award and he is so proud of his achievement! He is also so excited that he is reading! We couldn't be prouder of him!

Spencer got these Spider-Man pajamas at his birthday party last weekend and has been afraid to put them on. I am not sure why he was scared of them, (especially since he wants to be Spider-Man for Halloween) but he would cry and run and refuse to put them on. I finally got them on him tonight and the second he caught a glimpse of himself in the mirror, he went into spidey mode! He went and put on his Spider-Man beanie his Uncle Jason got him and was showing me his "Spider-Man Power". It was all just too cute!

Sleeping Spencer...Part 2

I have mentioned before that Spencer has a unique ability to just fall asleep anywhere! Here are a few more examples of my sweet little sleeping Spencer. He was playing a game on my sidekick in the first picture,(kind of looks like he is texting, huh?) and yes, he fell asleep on the toilet in the second picture. He likes to have me in the bathroom with him at the moment. He hates going to the bathroom, so he needs me to hold his hand...literally.
